Engagement: Andy and Leana

Andy and Leana emailed me a couple weeks back asking if we could squeeze in an engagement session before their wedding (May 26th). I had this past Sunday open and of course all week it was calling for rain all Weekend. Thankfully the weather forecasters were completely wrong and we had a really nice evening to just go have some fun. Here are some of my favorites from their session.

Landscape: Late Evening Wandering.

Tonight was one of those nights where I was just craving some alone time in the woods with my camera. I was a little unsure if I was able to get out as I had two meetings tonight AND it was supposed to rain most of the night. Well the meetings went fantastic (I work with really awesome people) and as i was heading to my car the clouds started to break apart. From past experience, this usually is the Holy Grail of photo opportunities. The sky is going to be pretty dynamic, the sun is low in the sky and the wildlife will be fairly active. Thankfully I packed all my gear in my giant backpack, so I was geared up and ready to go in just a few minutes. I spent a solid hour walking around and was rewarded with some really unexpected photos tonight. While I love the excitement of portrait photography, there is something truly amazing about unplugging from the world for a few moments to just be still in nature. Take note of the photo with the two geese that were a little pissed off at me and wouldn’t let me pass ….which completely ruined the zen moment I was having prior to that encounter. They were probably just defending the nesting geese in the bulrush. I ended up just taking one of my flashes out of my backpack and flashing them a few times…which they didn’t care for too much.

Wedding: Dave and Jane’s Spring Wedding

Two weekends ago I had my first wedding of the spring season and WOW was it an awesome day. Dave and Jane had both their ceremony and reception at the Northwestern College in the Nazareth Chapel. I had never been to this venue and it is now one of my favorites in the metro area. It was so nice to just walk around and find incredible photo opportunities and I could have spent the entire morning shooting if they wanted too. The first shot (below) was one of my favorites from the day and I love everything about it. Take a look at look at some of my other favorites from their day.

Capture Minnesota: My photos that were published In the Capture Minnesota Book.

A few months back, I wrote about the Capture Minnesota photography project that I was active with and even had a couple photos featured on their webpage. The project concluded on February 1st of this year and the project had received 95,934 photo submissions from photographers all around Minnesota. Seems like an incredible amount of photos and I can’t imagine being an editor sorting through all those entries to pick the best 200 of the group. A little over a month ago, I received an email letting me know that I had at least one photo that would be included in the final book. I was excited about the news and figured it would be one of the photos from my 2011 BWCA trip. I received the book in the mail today and found that I have three photos featured four times throughout the book. To my amazement, the photos selected were some of my older shots that I had submitted just for the hell of it…..glad I did I have already paged through the book at least ten times in the past four hours and I absolutely love it. If you love high quality photography books for your coffee table, I highly recommend checking this book out (Link to online store)

The spring weather has been incredible and I have been taking advantage of just about every moment of it. I had been meaning to test out some of my lighting gear, so figured why not do a few self portraits while I was out shooting some sunset photos too. Such a relaxing night and I may cry a little if we get another cold snap before spring officially arrives.

Wedding: Sean & Alyssa

Today I was dreaming of spring weather and warm beautiful colors….then I looked outside and all around is nothing but ugly brown. So I figured today would be a good day to post a gorgeous wedding from this past summer.

Sean and Alyssa’s wedding was at the Edinburgh Golf Club on a picture perfect summer night. I had met both of them at their friend’s wedding the previous summer and we had a lot of fun together. So I was very excited when the contacted me to continue the fun at their wedding. They had an outdoor ceremony on a patio that over looked the golf course and then we spent a little time exploring the property. It has been a long while since I posted any personal photos of my kids and I. So I figured that I’d share a few since they are such an important part of my daily life and by far my favorite subjects. So here are a few of my favorites from the past few months (September- January).
